| DISTRIBUTION
Broad barred mackerel are more common in the Australasian region around coastal headlands and rocky reefs but are also caught offshore.

| DISTINGUISHING
FEATURES
Broad barred mackerel have broad dark bars along their upper sides and a white area on the centre of the blackish first dorsal fin.

| GENERAL
Rod-and-reel gear is used almost exclusively with live bait, dead bait or lures. Fishers troll from boats or drift rigged baits from the shore, sometimes using balloons to carry the baits well out into the currents. It is of good edible quality.
