| DISTRIBUTION
They are found throughout the tropical Indo-Pacific oceans, occasionally venturing into their cooler waters.

| DISTINGUISHING
FEATURES
It has a long, broad, depressed head. the first dorsal fin consists of 8-10 short, depressible spines which are not connected by a membrane. The second dorsal fin has 1 spine and 27-33 soft rays. The anal fin has 1-2 spines and 22-27 soft rays. It is readily recognised by the alternate brownish and silvery bands running the length of the body.

| GENERAL
The cobia is a highly rated, hard-hitting game fish that is prone to long, powerful, determined runs and occasional leaps. Preferred fishing methods are trolling with lures or baits, bottom fishing, jigging, chumming, and spin casting. Good baits are squid, crabs, small live fishes, cut baits, and strip baits. Spoons, plugs, and weighted feathers can also be used. This fish is of good edible quality, steaks resembling Mackerel in appearance and flavour.
